Color can encode measurements

A natural-color image approximates how a scene might appear to human vision. A false-color product assigns measured channels to visible red, green and blue so patterns outside ordinary vision become easier to distinguish. How publishers should label imagery

A responsible caption identifies the satellite or product, observation time with time zone, geographic area and whether colors are natural or assigned. It links to the producing agency and avoids decorative recoloring that resembles a scientific product without explaining the palette. When an image is composited from multiple times or instruments, the caption should say so. Those details let readers reproduce the interpretation rather than merely trust it.
